I can confirm that this is the case, I think..

I excitedly downloaded 4.8.1 and performed an in-place upgrade from 4.7.7
and have hit a bunch of issues.

I guess I am better off un-indexing and returning to 4.7.7 for now, rather
than applying the patch locally (in case there are other reasons the patch
didn't get included)
