We are using libpam-mount, and it works perfectly.

To be configured in /etc/security/pam_mount.conf.xml, like

> <volume user="*" mountpoint="/home/%(USER)/mount_location" path="share_name" server="smb_server_name" fstype="cifs" options="domain=WRKGRP,sec=ntlmv2i,vers=3.0"/>

Or perhaps you don't mean something like this.

But it's not a GPO, of course.
