If it is too much trouble to update the DNS server IP addresses right
away on all DNS clients, you can create a 2nd IP address on the new DC
so existing clients with static DNS will point to the new DC. We have
several servers and workstations at remote locations that use static IP
addresses and DNS. Instead of going to each location to reconfigure
them one by one I just powered down the old DNS server then added it's
IP to the new DC as a secondary IP address. Saved me a lot of leg work.
