Sorry, but for me on 4.4.0rc5, having 'wins' in the hosts line has no
affect, it still works:
ping -c1 google.com
PING google.com (31.55.167.152) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 31.55.167.152: icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time=10.4 ms
--- google.com ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 1 received, 0% packet loss, time 0ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 10.401/10.401/10.401/0.000 ms
What it does say (well, to me), is that you probably don't need to be
using 'wins' anyway. You are getting dns resolved without wins, unless
it doesn't work for your internal network. It may help if you were tell
us how you are running Samba.
