[Samba] Upgrade from 4.2.10 Sernet packages to 4.4.2 selfcompiled

As far as I know sernet comes with their own way of setting the env and path for samba4 so it could be difficult or just not possible
to trigger all right. It would be better to do a fresh install. Or to pay sernet fort he update.
Compiled packages can be updated without issues.

Betreff: [Samba] Upgrade from 4.2.10 Sernet packages to 4.4.2 selfcompiled

Hi,

is there a "How to" for upgrading a DC from 4.2.10 Sernet packages to Samba 4.4.2 self compiled on a debian system?

I think there are two options?

Replace the sernet file:
1. Compile Samba
(https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Build_Samba_from_source) with the paths given by smbd -b 2. make install But what happens to the sernet packages/repository handled by the package manager?

Use default path and copy all database files:
1. Compile Samba
(https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Build_Samba_from_source) with the default options 2. make install 3. Copy all files There could be some problems with hard links as far as I now.

Regards
Andreas
