Hi,

I know this is only a peripheral samba question, but I think people
here might know and maybe it could be of interest to others. :)

I've got a Samba 4 in classic mode with openldap backend and am using
GOsa to manage the users. The openldap is also backend for all the
other services, like mail, web and so on.

Now my question is, do you know an alternative management tool for
that? I find GOsa cumbersome when adding more schemas and adding your
own fields into the LDAP. I would totally like a general purpose ldap
editor like ADS or phpldapadmin, that simply shows all the data, but
there is one problem: I don't want to manually generate the different
samba password hashes (sambaLMPassword, sambaNTPassword) and the non
human readable fields (sambaPwdLastSet, sambaMungedDial) myself. Also
I guess I would need to take care of ID generation and so on. :(

The solution to manage parts of the user account in ADS and the samba
part with the smbldap-tools might be a possibility, but I would prefer
to have it all in one, especially for my colleagues who don't create
accounts that often (and don't use the command line that well...)

Do you have any best practices for that?

Thanks in advance,
Jakob
