It could, even it should. The point is, for you, right now, it don't. I
think some users around here are running both services (AD + file sharing)
on the same system successfully. I'm not telling this impossible.

But I believe it was not advised by Samba Team to run Samba AD DC + Samba
file sharing on the same system.

I'm a virtualisation fan. I broke my system too often and I appreciate in
these cases I destroy one service, not the whole stuffs. So I'm not the
right one to tell you: for me one system is one service...

The second good thing I feel with heavy usage of virtualisation is for
understanding what is going wrong: less things on the same system, less
side effect to deal with.

Anyway, I wish you someone with more knowledge of Samba product could help
to understand what could lead your Samba to that behaviour.
