There's nothing special. Update like you did in the past.

There's a bug regarding "force user", that wasn't fixed in 4.2.0 final
and is scheduled for 4.2.1:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11082
If affected, you should wait until it's fixed.

Only the above. More shouldn't be required. And of course have a look
at the release notes of the version you've skipped.

The only thing that is new, is that you can now run Winbindd on your
DC. I'm currently working on a documentation.
