Are you using debian ? if so what does 'pam-auth-update' show? mine 
shows this:

Kerberos authentication
Unix authentication
Winbind NT/Active Directory authentication
GNOME Keyring Daemon - Login keyring management
ConsoleKit Session Management
Inheritable Capabilities Management
