Possibly a silly question, but did you edit 
<path_to>/samba/private/named.conf to point to the correct DLZ module for 
your version of bind?  Note that dlz_bind9 is for bind 9.8.  You need to 
use the other modules for 9.9 or 9.10.

Like Rowland, I've had no problems with bind_dlz.
