With:
passwd:         compat winbind
group:          compat winbind
shadow:         compat winbind
in /etc/nsswitch.conf
on a DC (as stated by the OP) it works.

but using wbinfo is surely the safer and more 'sambatic' way.

I don't think getent will work, if it did, you wouldn't need to do it :-)
You could try 'wbinfo --uid-info=3000042'
