Perhaps sernet provides (up-to-date) packages for CentOS?
Using those would allow you to update using "yum update".

Plus I couldn't figure out where the files were when it had me create links and such in the how to I was following, CentOS puts them in super secret place somewhere. I kind of like that idea because it would allow me to update it with my regular yum update.

I have to figure out exactly how to do the gzip thing. I am just a former Novell guy turned Windows that plays with Linux a little and uses it for my backup servers. The head of the git repository is targeted towards developers, who are supposed to be able to solve any issues, that might occur. Against that the official versions are tested better and hence recommened to use.
