Thanks for the info,
I started by just doing the (yum install samba4*) in CentOS but it installed a 4.0 version. Plus I couldn't figure out where the files were when it had me create links and such in the how to I was following, CentOS puts them in super secret place somewhere. I kind of like that idea because it would allow me to update it with my regular yum update.
I am getting ready to go through my second time building this environment from scratch and doing a full HowTo document. I will do it with the 4.1.12 this time and compile it. I have to figure out exactly how to do the gzip thing. I am just a former Novell guy turned Windows that plays with Linux a little and uses it for my backup servers. I am learning lot from this project though.

While this typically doesn't pose any serious concerns, it is still not a very good idea. It might be better to check out the last tagged version, i.e. 4.1.12 for the time being. The head of the git repository is targeted towards developers, who are supposed to be able to solve any issues, that might occur. Against that the official versions are tested better and hence recommened to use.
Compiling rather than taking the Sernet packages should be pretty OK, however.
