Windows Vista and later uses what they call WSD (Web Service for Device, or
such naming) or UPnP-based SSDP to
search for available network
resources before trying NetBIOS.  I have
read someone wrote Samba servers appeared properly in the Explorer window
if a Windows computer was the browse master, but I am not sure if it is
true.
