[Samba] Ubuntu client ddns failure [SOLVED]

with /etc/hostname empty:

  dnsdomainname -v
dnsdomainname: invalid option -- 'v'

lubuntu-laptop
steve at lubuntu-laptop:/etc$ dnsdomainname -f
lubuntu-laptop.hh3.site
steve at lubuntu-laptop:/etc$ dnsdomainname -d
hh3.site
steve at lubuntu-laptop:/etc$ dnsdomainname
hh3.site

Guys, we'd like to join this laptop to the real domain. Are we likely to 
break anything?
