OK, I have updated my bug report with the info that Louis recommended.

If you run 'samba-tool domain exportkeytab /etc/krb5.keytab' as root, on
a fully updated Ubuntu 14.04 AD server, you get this response
'Segmentation fault (core dumped)' , you only get a response if you run
the command as root. I then ran 'dmesg' as advised and found this at the
end:
[ 86.177156] samba-tool[1643]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp
00007fff780ce138 error 14 in python2.7[400000+2bd000]

As I have said in my bug report, I had this problem with the debian
4.1.3 package and it would seem, so did others, the problem was found
and fixed in debian samba version 4.1.4, so what did ubuntu do, they
tried to backport the fix to 4.1.3 and it would seem that it doesn't work.
