If you want to know that, go read : https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2013-October/176380.html
(samba 4, joining a windows 2008R2 domain as DC. ubuntu 12.04) based on sernet packages.
you can mix ubuntu/debian with sernet non-sernet and compiled samba without any problem.
for wheezy, use the debian-backports samba ( or sernet-samba )
for ubuntu, use the sernet-samba or some ppa for samba4
Or
use compiled samba, but you better start reading above, it refers also to the wiki.
when ">> All he needs to do is join the domain."
then you dont need sernet-samba-ad but sernet-samba-winbind ( and sernet-samba-common )
so, samba4 DC => sernet-samba-ad ( or debian ; samba from backports )
just domain member => sernet-samba-winbind ( debian; samba-winbind )
and then join the domain. Thats it.
My servers are sernet-samba AND samba from backports
( and own compiled from debian sid to wheezy )
all work ok.
Best regards,
Louis
