Thanks for the confirmation. There is a nfs list:
linux-nfs at vger.kernel.org
It's a high tension version of samba-technical, and there is a three 
headed dog guarding its entrance, but I've been courageous enough to 
subscribe and post there. Maybe they'll suggest I use cifs!
