[Samba] Windows 7 Client - Samba Domain

All
 the information I found shows
 that
 Windows 7 may operate
 in a samba
 domain
 only if aunt made
 these changes in
 the 
registry:
  HKLM \ System
 \ CCS \ Services
 \
 LanmanWorkstation \ Parameters
            
 DomainCompatibilityMode DWORD
 =
 1
             DWORD
 DNSNameResolutionRequired
 = 0
 But what do these
 values? Why 
should you be DomainCompatibilityMode
 = 1 and not 0
 or DNSNameResolutionRequired
 = 0 and not 
1, to
 work?
