[homes]
 	comment = Home Directories
 	browseable = yes
 	writable = yes
 	inherit permissions = yes
 	create mask = 0750
 	directory mask = 0750

No, there are no groups defined in smb.conf.

Basic info: 64-bit Linux, Fedora 12, up-to-date, samba from .rpm, version 
3.4.5-55.fc12.
