I have some in /var/lib/samba and /var/cache/samba on gentoo

jmd0 ~ # ls /var/lib/samba/
account_policy.tdb netlogon ntforms.tdb perfmon private
registry.tdb winbindd_idmap.tdb
group_mapping.ldb ntdrivers.tdb ntprinters.tdb printers profiles
share_info.tdb
jmd0 ~ # ls /var/cache/samba/
brlock.tdb gencache.tdb netsamlogon_cache.tdb sessionid.tdb
   winbindd_privileged
browse.dat locking.tdb notify.tdb unexpected.tdb
connections.tdb messages.tdb printing winbindd_cache.tdb

jmd0 ~ # testparm -s -v | grep "lock directory"
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
Processing section "[homes]"
Processing section "[printers]"
Processing section "[print$]"
Loaded services file OK.
Server role: ROLE_STANDALONE
        lock directory = /var/cache/samba
