Thanks for the suggestions, Adam and Gary. I'll try your suggestions.
I already have a section [global] (not [globals]) which contains other 
lines +
logon path = \\alpha\Profiles\%U

but I'll change the server name to %L just to be sure.

I'll keep you posted.
