I've had similar results, and will try to provide a little more
information...

Samba 3.2.3 on Fedora 9
Domain controller is win2k3

net ads info -Uadmin successfully returns information about the domain
controller.
net ads status -Uadmin successfully returns information about the client
machine, and the computer location in the OU

The admin account password is accepted if correct, and will fail if
incorrect.

This is debug level 1 output for the net ads join:
