I thought anything post W2K used DNS (and DNS SERVE records)? (I'm
referencing your comment about XP...)

If it's via WINS you want, I'm not entirely sure whether it will
definitely work either in Vista, or XP, but you'd need to have record
types 0x1bh and 0x1ch (likely) available via WINS.

I think you'll have to have working DNS and DNS SRV records, though.
I've got away with these type of WINS entries for external forest
trusts, but never tried it for effective client authentication and
membership.

I think i might've found the problem but don't know how to fix it?

Vista uses DNS to find PDC domain name while XP uses WINS

is there anyway to allow vista to find a PDC domain name without having
a valid DNS record for it or to find it using WINS?
or maybe i'm mistaken altogether
