Well, it *is* used in production. It's not trivial to set
up, but it works.

What do you mean by this? It is a hell bad idea to put tdb
files on GFS, this is what ctdb is for. This might btw be
the reason for your dramatic slowdown. Cluster file systems
are just not made for the tdb access pattern.
