is it normal that your smb.conf file is in /usr/local/samba/lib/ and
your secret.tdb is in /etc/samba/ directory?
What do you get if you do tdbdump /etc/samba/secret.tdb? You should get,
among other things, your ldap connexion DN and password in clear.
Perhaps you have stored your ldap credential in another secret.tdb file?
