[Samba] Performance issue with change to CIFS

Hi,

I have been using rsync to sync files from a Windows 2003 server that
was not in a domain using the smbfs to a Linux box with smbclient 3.0.22
(Ubuntu). After the Windows server was joined to the domain, smbfs no
longer worked so I switched to cifs. But it is now abysmally slow.

Any hints please. If it has already been covered here I apologize.
