I'am running a SAMBA ver 3.0.20b-3.11 on a Novell Linux Enterprise Server 9.
I am accessing samba from WinXP and OS/2 clients.

After some hours of normal operation I get the following repeating error
in /var/log/samba/log.smdb which floods the log file and full the hard
disk, bringing the entire system down.

...
[2006/09/06 11:40:26, 0] lib/util_str.c:string_sub2(939)
ERROR: string overflow by 8 in string_sub(%L, 3)

[2006/09/06 11:40:26, 0] lib/util_str.c:string_sub2(939)
ERROR: string overflow by 8 in string_sub(%L, 3)

[2006/09/06 11:40:26, 0] lib/util_str.c:string_sub2(939)
ERROR: string overflow by 8 in string_sub(%L, 3)

[2006/09/06 11:40:26, 0] lib/util_str.c:string_sub2(939)
ERROR: string overflow by 8 in string_sub(%L, 3)
.....
Any help is really appreciated since I've no solution but restarting the
system each time it happens and delete gigabytes of
var/log/samba/log.smdb .
