Perhaps you configured with the Samba 2.2 backwards compatability option
--with-ldapsam (which perhaps should go by now)?

If you either compile with the default options, or set 'passdb backend =
ldapsam:ldap://my.ldap.server' as documented, then this will use the
Samba 3.0 schema.
