I have 2 systems that are member servers in Samba PDC-LDAP domain.
Both running CentOS 4.2. Initially setup one server and everything
worked fine.
Copied over the conf files and modified for the second server.
wbinfo -u worked
wbinfo -g worked
getent passwd worked
getent group failed
Went over the configuration files again and found no differences in
configuration or rpm's installed. Checked configuration against Samba
How To by Example and found nothing.
restarted samba and winbind. The only error I saw was

Mar 19 07:03:00 FILESERVER2 winbindd[25406]: could not lookup domain
group IET+Domain Admins
Mar 19 07:03:00 FILESERVER2 winbindd[25406]: [2006/03/19 07:03:00, 0]
nsswitch/winbindd_group.c:winbindd_getgrent(789)
Mar 19 07:03:00 FILESERVER2 winbindd[25406]: could not lookup domain
group IET+Domain Users
Mar 19 07:03:00 FILESERVER2 winbindd[25406]: [2006/03/19 07:03:00, 0]
nsswitch/winbindd_group.c:winbindd_getgrent(789)
Mar 19 07:03:00 FILESERVER2 winbindd[25406]: could not lookup domain
group IET+Domain Guests

Updated samba rpms to samba-3.10-1.4E6 and everything started working
correctly as soon as I restarted samba and winbind. I'm still a bit
baffled as to the cause. Maybe there's a difference in my gcc versions.
