tried everything....

the domain of the windows clients is an windows 2000 domain. with active
directory. the samba server is not part of the domain but is in
workgroup mode. dns is also implemented on active directory. wins is
disabled on the dns servers. and even if i disable wins support in samba
and try to use dns proxy, it will not work.... ip address access works
wonderfull but hostname access is not granted..... i am really getting
desperate about it....

have you tried using a wins server then? netbios name lookups need such
a server to be able to traverse subnets.

regards,
franz
