Seems to me there was such a bug back around 3.0.14. A few diff's in our environment... though we have PC DOS 2000 around, MS DOS 7 is our main DOS in use, to get native FAT32 support. As well, we use 
InfoZip for DOS, 32-bit edition.

Does your server file system happen to be XFS?

Anyway, grab 3.0.21c if you can for your distro, retest, and post results back to the list.
