AFAIK no. I think it would not be possible without disabling password 
encryption, which would also mean he'll have to do without a lot of 
other things.

I'm doing it the other way round, i.e. using Samba as my authentication 
engine and let any other service authenticate through pam_smb. Then I 
use nss_ldap to complete the thing.
