[Samba] smbd install/execution failure (V 3.0.23)

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, I don't quite understand it.

I noticed some lines in the generated smb.conf file (from the 'deb' install),
but they don't quite match:

   # If you are using encrypted passwords, Samba will need to know what
   # password database type you are using.
   passdb backend = tdbsam guest

   obey pam restrictions = yes

There is an 'smbpasswd' file in '/etc/samba' and '/var/lib/samba/secrets.tdb'
exists, but no 'passdb.tdb' file there (although the Debian install indicated it
would be created).

Would you please be a little more verbose in what I need to do.
