[Samba] winbindd reporting wrong sid, but only sometimes on samba 3.0.23

Since you do not give any information about what sids
are returned I can't help you.  You don't ever say which
idmap backend you are using.  And terms like "completely
broken" are useless as well.

If this were a bug report, I'd close it as "Works for me".

If you provide the sufficient details, I'll try to help.
