[Samba] maximum password age

i've tried this:

root at servlan:~# pdbedit -v -u nicola | grep must
Password must change: Fri, 13 Dec 1901 21:45:51 GMT
root at servlan:~# smbpasswd nicola
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
root at servlan:~# pdbedit -v -u nicola | grep must
Password must change: Fri, 13 Dec 1901 21:45:51 GMT


as you can see it doesn't work!

maybe there is something to look for in the logs?
