[Samba] smbd fails to start on Fedora Core 4

Yes from Fedora. Originally as distributed on the ISOs I downloaded and
then potentially replaced by official rpms containing updates as
installed used yum (the package manager of choice in FC)

I'll email the fedora lists. If I get a satisfactory solution to my
problem I'll report back for the archive.
