[Samba] Samba starts strangely but doesn't answer

Hello,

I'm new to the list and new to samba, so this may be a very simple question.

I'm trying to get Samba working on FreeBSD, from the ports. When running "
samba.sh start" it outputs " Samba", then hangs with no other output. smbd
and nmbd both appear to be running but smbclient -L localhost shows nothing.
Running the log level up shows no errors in smbd startup, and nmbd is able
to see other machines. smbd also keeps spawning extra processes that don't
die over time. And no other machine sees any shares on the machine, just
like smbclient.

TIA,

Brian Hann
