Hello Paul,

Thank you for the fast response. In future I will do further research... one 
of the main issues was I was trying to use packages that were not designed 
for redhat 9, I believe that this caused the packages to search for the 
wrong libraries.

As far as ldbm goes, I am not keen on using it at all; I have done some 
reading and I now need to compile openldap with bdb, it seems that this is 
not such a trivial task; but I am sure more reading will make it happen.
