Thanks for the reply, Jerry.  I do indeed have that option set in the [global] 
section of smb.conf.  I also have use client driver = no set in there. 

I've read all the howtos and have gone through them step by step, so I don't 
think it's a configuration problem.  I believe it is something else.  
Unfortunately neither the log files nor the stack traces I've been doing have 
given me any clues as to what.
