[Samba] File transfer very slow one way - why?

I use Samba between a Windows 98SE and a Linux Slackware 10 box.

File transfers from Linux to Windows are very slow - about 10% of
the quite reasonable speed from Windows to Linux.

Any idea why this is so slow?
