I've looked into this, and I think it is to do with the profile path.
Are these shares related the the user's profile or home directory?

Now, it would not entirely surprise me if we have an alignment bug in
Samba3 (given what we are learning as we build the much improved
Samba4), but it still doesn't entirely add up, as it gets it right the
second time.  I've seen the traces of this at my site, and the
connection back to the Samba server isn't the problem, somewhere in
windows the data is truncated, but what causes it I don't know.
Possibly because we don't give some detail to windows right, but we
would need to comparison-test to be sure.
