It appears that the windows client is using DNS for name resolution.

On the windows client, at the command line, do
	ipconfig /all 
Is there an entry for a WINS server? It should be your samba server IP.

If not, you must either configure DHCP to give the wins server, or you must 
manually enter the WINS info in the 'Advanced' window of the Network Control 
panel.
