This dosen't look like a samba problem. Please, show us the output of:

uname -a
lspci
lsmod
free
uptime
hdparm -i /dev/partition
hdparm -I /dev/partition
hdparm -Tt /dev/partition

Where partition is the device where the samba share is mounted.
