try one of the following:

./net rpc join -S NT4SERVER -U administrator

./net rpc join -S NT4SERVER -U administrator%'xxxxxxxx'

./net rpc join -W MYWORKGROUP -U administrator

./net rpc join -W MYWORKGROUP -U administrator%'xxxxxxxx'
