[Samba] can a standalone NT4 server become member of a samba3-Domain?

can a standalone NT4 server become member of a samba3-Domain?
 
How do I manage to have the nt4-application server join the Samba-Domain?
Although there is an existing (new created) client account on the samba
domain I alsways get the error message "Domain Controller could not be
reached" when I try to add the NT4 server to the domain.
