[Samba] WinXP/SP2 can't find service ".exe"?

Since installing SP2 on a client WinXP machine, I get repeated entries like this in the Samba (v2.2.11) log for that client:

Unable to get printer status for lj4500,winspool,ne02:.exe - client-error-not-found
[2004/09/17 04:00:24, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(252)
  venus (192.168.0.3) couldn't find service lj4500,winspool,ne02:.exe
[2004/09/17 04:00:24, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_printername_ok(388)
Unable to get printer status for lj4500,winspool,ne02 - client-error-not-found

  venus (192.168.0.3) couldn't find service lj4500,winspool,ne02
[2004/09/17 04:00:25, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_printername_ok(388)
Unable to get printer status for lj4500.exe - client-error-not-found

  venus (192.168.0.3) couldn't find service lj4500.exe

This client machine ("venus") is using a networked HP LaserJet 4500 ("lj4500") as it's default printer. Samba v2.2.11 is running on a Linux machine, and exports network printers via CUPS.

Note that something is looking for ".exe" and then appends the ".exe" extension to the share name of the printer, resulting in an unsuccessful search for "lj4500.exe".

Can anyone advise me on what config changes are needed to stop this frequent errors from occurring?

Thanks.
