[Samba] Samba mount performance issues.

I recently discovered some strange behavior when listing a mounted
(windows2k share) directory with over 500 files in it.  The 'ls' will
return blank three or four times before returning a list of files.
Mounted directories with fewer files do not have this issue.  

I'm using ReiserFS
Samba 3.0.7 
Mounting windows share via 'mount -t smbfs //server/resource
/mnt/resource'

Is there a way to correct this?

The directory in question has 633 files and 10 subdirectories.
