I'm not sure how I would do that?

In looking at the messages log, it appears that these messages started 
appearing after I added the following lines to the smb.conf [global] section:

   dos charset = CP932
   unix charset = EUC-JP
   display charset = CP932

In order to handle the Japanese workstations.
