[Samba] what's happening when joining the domain

hi,

I've a samba 2.2.8a with a ldap backend
I've win2k workstations on the domain.
Most of time there's no problem ... but sometime, 
the win2k workstations are losing there domain ..
I had to re-join the domain .....

In fact my problem is not to rejoin the domain ....
I just want to known what's happening exactly what i clicke on "join domain" 
on the win2k workstations .....

the machine account exist on LDAP ........ and it's not modified when i join 
the domain .... so what's happening on server side ... and and workstation 
side ....
